Fun Week - Wednesday!

Today (Wednesday) for Fun Week we:

Went to the zoo and got chase about 3 blocks by the angriest one of these:

Yes. A peacock. This thing chased us through the prairie dogs:

Past the donkey:

Past the baby goat thing:

Past the Ox:

All the way through the playground area and finally stopped chasing us here:

Those of you familiar with the the zoo here, that's quite a way to be chased by a zombie peacock. I did learn that I WILL actually launch my poor children at rabid birds chasing me (ok, like there really was any question) and that they should probably learn to run faster without getting distracted by prairie dogs, goats, ox and the like if they plan on surviving an actual zombie apocalypse.

The zoo has also recently completed their sea lion exhibit. It's really pretty cool! It's got an under ground tunnel that you can watch the two sea lions in the water swimming.

We hadn't had a chance to check this new addition out before now and it turned out to be a new favorite.

Last stop of the Zoo trip was this fellow:
He's some kind of gecko. I was trying to show the kids his sticky feet and the stinker jumped back off the glass and back up giving me the heebie jeebies. Turns out I'm willing to throw the kids at creepy lizards too.

After the zoo we went home to cool off (oh my 100 degrees is WAY to hot!) and got ready to go swimming!

Then, it was time for presentation time at the library! I must admit they were a little disappointed about this one. It was on Mars and was aimed at kids 4-10, but only contained material that can be found in any simple book. The kids were really wanting more in depth science-y stuff - which this did not contain.

But, they made gak at the end and gave them a Popsicle which apparently makes everything better somehow.

Overall? A very busy, but successful day. Both kids are exhausted which makes putting them in their bed SUPER easy (bwahahahah!) and hopefully makes it so they don't feel like they are "missing" anything by not having a *real* summer vacation.

Tomorrow we have Big BIg BIG plans. They don't know though. *giggle* Tomorrow we're going to attempt the water park in Muskogee. Well, in theory anyhow. :)

Fun Week!

Most people know we Homeschool year round here. I get a lot of the usual "Why would you do that?" and "Don't you want them to have a break?" or even better "Isn't it best for the kids to have a summer break?" Well, no. It's actually not *best* for these two to have 2 1/2 months of no schedule the SURPRISE a completely different one. But, that's a different post. For the last 5 weeks, they have both been working very hard on a new school schedule that gets a lot more done during their available school time, with much less fuss - after an initial adjustment time so I declared this week Fun Week.

On Sunday:  Playing in the hose with a pool full of bubbles!

We went and saw Brave (the new movie) and then had planned on going swimming, but there was something or other wrong with the pool SOOOOO... when all else fails. A pool full of Mr. Bubbles solves a world of problems.

On Monday: Bowling for the first time this year!

A Happy Dance

Here Look at Me! I can make a face!

 Ta Da!

Ahhh 6 year old boys. Apparently never get tired of themselves making faces.

On Monday we also did this experiment:

We (read *mommy*)  hot glued 2 packs of crayons on a piece of canvas. We were attempting to see 1) Which crayons would melt the fastest? and 2) How long it would take? and 3) Which way to lay the canvas would produce the "best" results?

The results were interesting, but expected. The lightest crayons hardly melted at all while the darkest melted the most. If  you set it up (like in the first picture) the drip down immediately and create a giant pool at the bottom on the ground (or parchment paper if you are smart like me). If you lay it flat (in the bottom picture) it make a pool where the crayon is and then you can sort of control where the melted crayon wax goes. Conveniently the weather was VERY hot and worked out well for our experimental craft.  The kids were giddy with how the crayons got all *gooey* and runny then hard and crusty again.

Overall, a nice little experiment to visually see how the dark colors absorb the heat while the light colors don't. They were able to apply that to why Bear (the puppy) feels so much hotter than Timmy (the other puppy) Bear is all black but Timmy is a light brown and white Beagle and they also figured out why it's important to help keep him cooler. Not really where I was going with that experiment, but I'll take it.

On Tuesday:  Declutter the craft area and watch a movie with Bear!

Not as exciting as the other days, I know, but I figure lay low today and attack tomorrow with full fervor.

Bear finding out he LOVES popcorn!

We pulled out our giant over filled stuffed pillow (AKA the landing pad) and all climbed onto it with the puppy and watched Chicken Run and had popcorn and mini marshmallows.

We also went to the library and got a new stash of books to fawn over. I love that they both will sit and read the new library books like a great new prized toy has just been delivered. Hours each time. It's awesomely bizarre.

The rest of the week is still to come. What trouble will we get in to?? I never know. We are currently pondering the zoo, a program at the library, the Muskogee water park, going to get a bagel and a few other things so we'll see what we end up doing. Hopefully I can get a pic or 2 of them at their swim lessons on Friday. They're both so darned cute!
